Awapoto hut on the Abel Tasman inland track

Hike to Awapoto Hut, Abel Tasman National Park

Each week, we highlight our fave tramping trails in New Zealand for day and multi day hikes across Nelson Tasman (and beyond!)

AWAPOTO HUT, ABEL TASMAN NATIONAL PARK INLAND TRACK

Such a cute hut! Known for its awesome sunrises over the ocean 🌅 There are a couple of ways to get there - we chose to go via Pigeon Saddle (just before Totaranui Beach) which is about 2 hours from Richmond.

We took 3 hours to hike up to the hut - track is steep in parts, but lots of up and down so not too hard on the body! The track is also a bit rough and overgrown, so you’ll be dodging scrub and climbing over a few logs! Makes for a great adventure, and very different to coastal track (in a good way 😜). Great views along the way, beautiful native bush and heaps of bird life.

The hut is really quaint, tidy & sleeps 12. No bookings required. Great option for a quick overnight trip! 🌞
