Hike to Gibbs Hill, Abel Tasman National Park

Hike to Gibbs Hill, Abel Tasman National Park

If you find yourself camped at Tōtaranui for the weekend, check out this loop via Separation Point, Whariwharangi Hut and Gibbs Hill!

20km loop
822m elevation gain

The coastal path is what you’d expect of the Abel Tasman - well-groomed and wide, with multiple swim spots along the way. The inland route over Gibbs Hill is steeper, more technical terrain, with moderate shade. Expect roots and rocks, but likely not another soul in sight! The views are - of course - breathtaking.

We’d recommend avoiding this loop in the peak of summer to beat the crowds and the heat 🥵 Keep an eye out for dolphins, seals and those pesky weka! Option to add on the extra 3.5km Headlands Track loop just north of Tōtaranui.
