MT BROWN HUT, WEST COAST
A definite must do! This track starts off fairly moderate for the first 2km and then it’s a steep scrambly climb to reach the four person hut at 1125m. Estimate 4 hours to the summit (1270m) but all depends on fitness. Amazing sunrises and sunsets from this wee orange hut and epic views of the wild West Coast. You can also hear the stags roaring at this time of year!
Getting There: 🚗
You will find the beginning of this hike on the eastern side of Lake Kaniere, about thirty minutes out of Hokitika. Pass the Hans Bay DOC campsite onto Dorothy Falls Road. Follow this road and you will find a car park on your left under some trees.
