Each week, we highlight our fave tramping trails in New Zealand for day and multi day hikes across Nelson Tasman (and beyond!)
The St James Walkway, Lewis Pass
This track is a wonderful introduction to multi day hiking without added danger.
The hike stretches over 65km from the top of Lewis Pass to the Boyle River village via the Waiau River, usually taking 4 nights and 5 days. There are serviced huts all along this track where you will find a comfortable place to sleep, along with a fire and water.
These huts are a pleasant day’s wander apart and the track itself is mostly even gradient and the two passes are relatively low (Ada Pass and Anne Saddle).
Overall this hike will give you a great feeling of achievement and give you the freedom from civilisation you’re seeking!
