Hike to Lake Lockett, Kahurangi National Park

Hike to Lake Lockett, Kahurangi National Park

11km one way, 22km out-and-back
900m elevation gain

This beautiful “local” camp spot is well worth the long drive into the Cobb Valley! What used to be an old trap line is now a well-worn trail leading up to the lake and the Lockett Range.

Park up at the Sylvester trailhead on the north side of the reservoir and walk up the road towards the quarry. There is a well-marked track that leads off from the top of the quarry and sidles along the hill before dropping onto the Diamond Lake Stream. Follow for a few k's before a short’n’steep climb up to Lake Lockett, where views and wee campsites abound!

This isn't an official campsite, so be a legend and bury your poop!!! Leave a stack of firewood for the next visitors and take all your rubbish and food scraps with you.

Option for an out-and-back, or turn it into a loop! See our previous post on the Diamond Lakes Loop for more details.
