Such an incredible journey to this remote destination!!
48km out-and-back journey (24km each way)
2-3 days
Kick off the day with a cruisey 13km (3-5 hours) walk from the Cobb Reservoir into Fenella Hut. Follow the route signs, and head up the track for 11km (6-10 hours) of 680m of vertical climbing, lots of sideling, and tackling some good scree. You will require good navigation skills for this section as it is a cairned route. Watch out for a few steep parts that require good balance and ability to deal with heights! The track takes you past Kakapo Peak, then along a ridge before arriving at Lonely Lake Hut.
Look out for the incredible views of the Dragon's Teeth in the Douglas Range, and Lonely Lake perched on the side of the mountain cascading into waterfalls below 🥰
This basic wee hut sleeps 4 people, no fire, and doesn't take bookings so take a shelter just incase! It has a toilet and water sources close by but they are not obvious! Just keep looking. You will need to prepared for all conditions up in these mountains. We had a good weather window but still got surprised with snow and high wind. This is an advanced hike. Be prepared (like always 😉)
