Each week, we highlight our fave tramping trails in New Zealand for day and multi day hikes across Nelson Tasman (and beyond!)
Mt Fyffe, Kaikōura Ranges
With stunning 360 degree views over the Kaikōura ranges, the plains and peninsula - you are in for a real treat when you summit Mt Fyffe (1,600m)
If you’re really lucky, on a clear day you can see our friends over on the North Island too!
Plus this another dog friendly hike (with a DOC permit)
Park up at the Mt Fyffe car park 15km from Kaikoura, before heading up the 4WD track up the mountain ridge.
An 6-8 hour return journey, this 18km round trip is a real steep ascent! If you want to break it up, Mt Fyffe has a cute wee hut sitting an hour below the summit, with awesome views and a little fire
We loved this one as a sunrise hike due to the easy, well-maintained track. Don’t forget your poles, crampons/microspikes and windbreaker for the top!
Try this challenging hike to Lonely Lake Hut in the Kahurangi National Park. A difficult route for the experienced hiker, with rewarding views and a remote hut.
